LOS ANGELES: Patricia Arquette won the best supporting actress Golden Globe on Sunday for her role in Richard Linklater's coming-of-age drama "Boyhood."
She bested rivals Jessica Chastain ("A Most Violent Year"), Keira Knightley ("The Imitation Game"), Emma Stone for "Birdman" and Meryl Streep ("Into the Woods").
"Boyhood" -- from director Linklater -- was shot over a 12-year period, with the same actors. It tells the story of a young boy and his older sister growing into adulthood. Arquette plays their single mother.
Arquette thanked the "visionary" Linklater for "shining a light on this woman and the millions of women like her."
