'Sherlock' star Benedict Cumberbatch will be honoured at the ‘British Independent Film Awards’ (BIFAs) in December this year.
According to media reports, Cumberbatch, will receive the ‘Variety Award’ at the London prize giving for helping 'focus the international spotlight on the UK ‘in addition to his ‘Best Actor’ nomination for his role in 'The Imitation Game'.
“I am delighted to receive this prestigious award and would like to thank ‘Variety and The Moet British Independent Film Awards’ for this incredible honour. It is made even more special by the recognition of ‘The Imitation Game’ in this year’s nominations, a film I am very proud to be a part of,” the actor added.
The further reports coincides with the release of his latest film, ‘The Imitation Game’ which is nominated for four British Independent Film Awards, Best British Independent Film, Best Screenplay for Graham Moore, Best Actress for Keira Knightley and Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch. Previous winners of the ‘Variety Award’ include Jude Law, Liam Neeson, Sir Michael Caine, Daniel Craig, Dame Helen Mirren, Richard Curtis and Paul Greengrass, media reported.
The film has been nominated for next year’s ‘Oscars’. The’ Variety Award’ which takes place in London on December 7.
