Rumours about Sanjay Dutt’s 1993 film, ‘Khalyanak’ being re-made were floating few days back, However, Subhash Ghai, who had directed the film, has rubbished reports of the rights of the Sanjay Dutt-Madhuri Dixit starrer being sold off.
According to media reports, Ghai denied selling the rights of ‘Khalnayak’ to Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He said, “I respect Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a unique filmmaker, who has also proven himself as an independent producer with ‘Rowdy Rathod’ and ‘Mary Kom’. But I have not made up my mind about selling the remake rights of ‘Khalnayak’ to him”.
There were reports that John Abraham might play Sanjay Dutt`s character in ‘Khalnayak’, but Ghai said nothing has been finalized yet.
“We are still in the scripting stage. Once we finish scripting, we will think about the star cast. For us, the idea and the concept come first. My films ‘Hero’, ‘Karma’, ‘Ram Lakhan’ and ‘Khalnayak’ will be re-written and will be made in a fresh way," he added.
The rights to two other films directed by Ghai, ‘Hero’ and ‘Ram Lakhan’, have already been sold to Salman Khan and Karan Johar respectively. As far as the 1993 Sajay Dutt hit is concerned ‘Khalnayak’ remake is not on the cards anytime soon.
