Joseph Kosinski, director of “TRON: Legacy”, together with the producers of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, is back with another Sci-Fi movie “Oblivion,” which releases Friday April 19th.
“Oblivion,” rated PG-13, shows Earth in the year 2077, reduced to ruins by decades of war with alien invaders called Scavs. Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) along with teammate Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) is on a mission to clean up the remains and bring back important resources to humanity’s new lunar home. Even though Jack is nostalgic about the past, haunted especially by thoughts of a woman named Julia he saw before the war, Victoria is suspiciously averse to memories from the past.
One day when their task is nearly complete, Jack is suddenly reunited with Julia (Olga Kurylenko). Soon, he meets Beech (Morgan Freeman), who tells him that everything he knows is a lie. The fate of mankind now rests with Jack Harper, who must confront his past and deal with the disillusion.
The character of Tom Cruise seems inspired by the robot from the 2008 Disney film “Wall-E.” “Oblivion,” with its plot of epic proportions where aliens go up against humans led by Tom Cruise, is also reminiscent of the Oscar-nominated Sci-Fi action film “War of the Worlds.” We hope it’s just as thrilling!
