The latest sensation ‘Pokemon Go’ has been selling like hot cakes, but the gaming app came down after a hacking group took down the Pokémon Go servers using a DDOS attack.
The group that calls itself “PoodleCorp” announced on Twitter that it was behind the action, which has left frustrated the millions of users who vent about not being able to play on social media. However, the claim is yet to be verified.
According to CNN, the hugely popular Pokemon Go has been spreading like wildfire, since its release on July 7; the game has been topping the charts with 10 million downloads at Android and Apple devices.
The augmented reality game works by superimposing Pokemon creatures into the real world which it does using your smartphone camera.
The DDOS or Distributed Denial of Service attack is a method used by hackers to crash servers, in which they flood huge number of requests every second towards the system, so many that they cannot cope with it, reported The Telegraph.
Since the launch of Pokemon Go, the game has become controversial, as it was reported for being used to conduct robbery. Later, two men in San Diego fell off a cliff after they climbed over a fence in an attempt to catch the animated characters.
On Saturday, Pokemon was launched in different countries and can now be played in 34 countries, including US, Australia and most parts of Europe.
