Actress and UN Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson stood up at the UN Headquarters in New York City and delivered a powerful speech on a social cause. The next day, anonymous individuals targets Watson with sexual threats, counting down the five days until everyone were meant to presume her private nude images would be made public. But, seems like it was yet another marketing strategy to promote a website.
The website EmmaYouAreNext.com, which previously claimed it would leak nude photos of Emma Watson and was believed to have been created by 4chan users, turned out to be a hoax by social media marketing firm Rantic, which apparently has aims to shut down 4chan. As of Wednesday morning, EmmaYouAreNext.com redirected visitors to Rantic’s website, media reported.
According to foreign media reports, Rantic Marketing is a fake company run by a gang of prolific internet spammers used to quickly capitalize on internet trends for page views. The site has reached 48 million viewers from the day it was launched last Saturday.
Attempts to contact Rantic.com online are met by an error message. A spokesman for Emma Watson said she would not be making any comment on this issue.
