How much does the world famous British monarchy? Well, a whooping $84 billion, says a report released to mark the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth.
According to International Business Times, the report by the consultancy firm Brand Finance estimated that the royal family would generate a net $1.64 billion for the UK economy this year from activities ranging from tourism, royal warrants and the surplus generated by the crown estate.
The ‘royal warrants’ by the way, are a seal companies can display on their products if they are among the suppliers to the British royal households i.e. Cadbury chocolate, Jaguars, Burberry, etc.
The report added that the total worth of the monarchy's tangible assets, such as the crown estate, the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster and the crown jewels, are estimated at £20.9bn. Whereas, the non -tangible assets of the crown worth some £37.5bn, as per the firm. Leading to a combine total of £58.4bn ($84bn) figure.
The non-tangible assets were namely the monarchy’s long-term contribution to the British economy.
As per CBS News, the Brand Finance CEO, David Haigh, said in a statement, "Brand Finance's research shows that from an economic standpoint at least, the royalists firmly have the upper hand. The Queen is exceptionally hard-working and respected; it will be interesting to see whether in due course Charles and William make as effective CEOs as Elizabeth."
