Fasting has become very popular in health community, but physicians and health practitioners usually don’t recommend it to the masses due to the uncontrollable urge to eat less than the required amount. But, fasting has incredible health benefits if used sensibly.

Fasting can be a safe way to lose weight as many studies have shown that intermittent fasting (fasting that is controlled within a set number of hours) allows the body to burn through fat cells more effectively than just regular dieting.
When the body starves of food, it starts to burn fat so that it can make energy. This can lead to weight loss. However, if you fast for too long your body will eventually start breaking down muscle protein for energy, which is unhealthy.

Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralising the toxins resulting from biochemical functions through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph nodes, and skin. Fasting precipitates this process because when food no longer enters the body the latter turns to its fat reserves for energy.
When the fat reserves are used for energy during a fast, they release the stored chemicals from the fatty acids into the system and are then eliminated through different organs.

Fasting can be a helpful practice for those who suffer with eating disorders, and for those who find it difficult to establish a correct eating pattern due to work and other priorities. With fasting going all afternoon without a meal is okay and it can allow you to eat at a set time that fits your lifestyle.

Fasting for certain time period helps in improving immunity system. It regulates inflammatory conditions in the body and starves off cancer cell formation.
Fasting gives rest to the digestive system and helps in cleaning the toxins from the body which results into clearer skin, prevent acne and other skin related problems.
Fasting prevents brain cells and improves brain functions. It also protects from brain related diseases like Alzheimer and Parkinson.
