With the blazing sun coming down hard on Karachi, the temperature continued to soar, leading to more deaths due to heatstroke. More than 700 people died and 600 emergencies reported at different hospitals of the megacity.
According to Jinnah Hospital (JPMC) Emergency Department Incharge Dr Seemin Jamali said, at least 3,000 heatstroke patients have been treated thus far and many still waiting for the treatment.
Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, during his visit to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Monday evening, told journalists that at least 248 people had died due to the ongoing heat wave in the city. Some 171 died at JPMC, 62 at Civil Hospital Karachi and 15 Lyari General Hospital during three days, local media reported.
Pakistan Army has formed heat stroke centres at Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi, Singer Chowrangi Korangi and Aisha Bawani Academy Shahrah e Faisal. Heatstroke affectees will be provided free medical assistance at these centers. While, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) has also formed ten emergency centres in different areas.
