imageRecently a case where a girl (Kinza) died apparently due to food poisoning in District Central Karachi, her family claimed that Kinza ate burgers from a fast food joint in North Nazimabad where after eating the burgers she fell sick and was admitted to private Hospital. She died during the treatment and was later laid to rest.

This incident has raised a lot of questions on leading fast food chains and the people who are consuming it. The debate on adverse effects of fast food is not new, especially for those who are well-educated to know its circumstances. Still, thousands of people are consuming it; the reason is obvious but still not justified.

People say ‘You are what you eat’, for me it simply means, to be fit and healthy you need to eat good food. Ninety per cent of the diseases known to man are caused by cheap foodstuffs.

According to a study published in JAMA Pediatrics, children and adolescents take in more calories in fast food and other restaurants than at home. Eating out added between 160 and 310 extra calories a day.

A study published in the journal Public Health Nutrition showed that eating commercial baked goods (doughnuts, croissants, cake) and fast food (pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs) may be linked to depression.

Chocolate and greasy foods, often blamed for acne, are not the real culprits. It’s carbs because foods that are high in carbohydrates increase blood sugar levels, they may also trigger acne. High cholesterol and high blood pressure are among the top risk factors for heart disease and stroke which is usually caused by frequent intake of fast food.

Fast food restaurants predominantly serve meals in big portion sizes with higher amounts of calories than you need in fewer prices, which seem tempting but increase greater health risks.
