KARACHI: Just hours after Sir Alex Ferguson shook the foundations of the English Premier League with the announcement of his retirement, rumors started circulating that Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo could make a dramatic return to the club where it all began.
According to English media sources, Manchester United’s Chief Executive David Gill visited Madrid to meet Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes. It has been reported that the Barclays Premier League Champions are positive about Ronaldo’s return to the club. Ronnie transferred to Real Madrid in 2009, for a staggering £80 million becoming the most expensive player in the history of football.
It is reported that Ronaldo’s return could help United’s next Manager, most likely David Moyes, in persuading Wayne Rooney to stay at the club. Apparently Sir Alex didn’t feel the need to hide his feelings about wanting Ronaldo to return to the club. When the Red Devils met Mourinho’s Madrid in the Champions League line-up, Ferguson was quoted as saying ‘Was I tempted to bring him back? Yes. He’s still in the hamper!’
Whether or not this dream comes true for many fans has yet to be seen, but one thing’s certain – It won’t be under Sir Alex again!
