marilyn-monroeKARACHI: Thousands of Hollywood snapshots will go under the hammer in New York’s Guernsey's auction house in April.

The auction, on 6th and 7th April, will put up about 1900 of the 3 million negatives, posters and pictures of photographer Irving Klaw’s “The Movie Star News Collection”, which he began in 1939 after making a deal with the film studios. Stuart Scheinman, co-owner of Entertainment Collectibles, purchased the collection from Klaw's nephew, Ira Kramer in 2012, and is now putting them up for bidding.

The pictures will be in black and white, since they showcase Hollywood as it was in the 20s, 30s and 40s. The collection exhibits the most famous superstars from the golden era of Hollywood including James Dean (“Rebel Without a Cause”), “Latin Lover” AKA Rudolph Valentino, Judy Garland (“Meet Me in St. Louis”), “The King of cool” AKA Steve McQueen (“The Great Escape”), Charlie Chaplin and Audrey Hepburn (“My Fair Lady”). Although Marilyn Monroe is a 50s star, there will be nearly 600 pictures of the “Some Like It Hot” heartbreaker, dominating the auction much like the globally celebrated icon ruled the epoch.

The auction will also incorporate signs and photographs from the sets of the Oscar-winning "King Kong", "The Wizard of Oz," and the immortal superhit "The Godfather."

Auctioneers at Guernsey’s predict $60 to $100 price tags for some of the pictures. They expect a $10,000 bid for a pair of high-heel shoes worn by model Betty Page, titled the "Queen of Pin-Ups." Overall, it is believed that the collection is worth millions of greens.
