Batteries now to last 400 years Researchers at the University of California, Irvine have invented a nanowire-based battery that would almost never need replacement and would last for an astounding span of 400 years!The breakthrough has been considered of such grand proportions that it may be incorporated into commercial use to have a greatly lengthened battery lifespan for spacecraft, cars, computers, smart phones and electronics.According to foreign media, Mya Le Thai a PhD student at UCI had accidently discovered the battery while experimenting with nanowires of gold embedded in an electrolyte gel.Nanowires being the good conductors that they are hold electrons more rigidly due to their surface area; since they are very fragile they often crack and die after a few charge cycles.
