rehmanISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Rehman Malik on Monday said law of the land would take its course if former President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf arrives in Pakistan.

"Officially I have no information about his arrival or in which city he (Musharraf) will land, but one can contact his party people to know about detail," he told mediamen.

The Minister said this after attending a meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior held at Headquarters of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

Rehman Malik ruled out any mediation on part of Saudi Arabia's government in connection with arrival of Pervez Musharraf to Pakistan. "Saudi Arabia has requested nothing in this regard," he added.

The Minister said the government would issue Pakistan's visa to US businessman, Mansoor Ejaz whenever he wants. As per directions of Commission, probing memo issue, the government would also provide security to Mansoor Ejaz if he arrives, Rehman Malik assured.

"Chief of Pakistan Muslim League PML-(N), Mian Nawaz Sharif knows better that who is Mansoor Ejaz and if Nawaz Sharif wants to take him to Raiwind as a guest, all security would be provided," he said, in response to a question.

When asked about involvement of his ministry's officials in corruption, Malik said, the officials of Ministry of Interior, who were involved in corruption, have been arrested and challaned. Moreover, the cases registered ten years back, were also being scrutinized and action would also be taken as per law.

Rehman Malik said NADRA has been tasked to computerized arm licenses issued by Ministry of Interior with the objective to ensure transparency. The Minister asked the license holders to get re-register their arm licenses so the process could be completed within set time frame.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said he has received a letter that all persons being summoned by the Commission, should be provided security including Hussain Haqqani.

Earlier, briefing to the Standing Committee chaired by Abdul Qadir Patel, the minister said the work relating to issuance of Arms Licenses has been devolved to provinces after the 18th Amendment in the Constitution.

He apprised the Committee that in pursuance of the constitutional Amendment, Ministry of Interior has not issued Armed Licenses after June 30, 2011. However, a revised Arms License Policy has been formulated and submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.

The Committee was told that 2400 arms licenses are pending due to deficiency of the required documents like authenticity of the approval of the competent authority and verification of depositing the licenses fee by the concerned National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branch as well as registration of the weapon with the office of the concerned District Coordination Officer (DCO).

NADRA has been assigned the task for revalidation or issuance of computerized Arms Licenses as a total of 109863 licenses have been presented for revalidation till January 14, the Minister further informed.

The Committee directed the Ministry to get regularized those pending licenses cases which were issued during the period of former government and who have deposited license fee in NBP.

Discussing the National Database and Registration Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2011 (Private Member Bill), moved by Ms. Tasneem Siddiqui, MNA, Standing Committee was informed that Ministry of Interior has already issued orders for issuance of computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to those children (whose parentage is not identified) and who have been registered with registered orphanages.

Upon this explanation by the Ministry, the Committee disposed off the Bill.

The meeting was attended by Muhammad Ijaz Virk Advocate, Bilal Yasin, Sahibzada Syed Murtaza Amin, Sheikh Waqqas Akram, Ms. Bushra Gohar, MNAs, Ms. Tasneem Siddiqui, MNA and mover of the Bill and Senior Officers of the Ministry, FIA and NADRA.
