nz-south-africa-DURBAN: New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat in the first Twenty20 international against South Africa at Kingsmead on Friday.

A total of seven new caps were in action.

Batsman Colin Munro, all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and left-arm fast bowlers Mitchell McClenaghan and Corey Anderson earned their first caps for New Zealand, while opening batsman Henry Davids, wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock and fast bowler Chris Morris played their first games for South Africa.

New Zealand were forced to select their team without leading batsman Martin Guptill and left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult, who were suffering from stomach ailments.

Left-arm swing bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe became the third South African player to withdraw from the three-match series when he was ruled out with an ankle injury. Earlier withdrawals were all-rounder Wayne Parnell (wrist injury) and regular limited overs captain AB de Villiers, who asked to be rested ahead of two Test matches against New Zealand next month.

Teams:

South Africa: Faf du Plessis (capt), Richard Levi, Henry Davids, Quinton de Kock (wkt), Farhaan Behardien, David Miller, Ryan McLaren, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Chris Morris, Rory Kleinveldt.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum (capt, wkt), Rob Nicol, Peter Fulton, James Franklin, Colin Munro, Corey Anderson, Nathan McCullum, Jimmy Neesham, Doug Bracewell, Ronnie Hira, Mitchell McClenaghan.

Umpires: Johan Cloete, Shaun George (both RSA).
