ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority (NHA) has spent Rs.376,794.457 Million on the construction of highways and motorways in the country during past four years.

An official source told APP Saturday that in the financial year 2013-14 Rs. 57,457.6 million were spent on federal road projects, in 2014-15 Rs. 72,672.1 million were spent, Rs 2015-16 million, Rs. 82,960.7 million,Rs 2016-17 Rs.163,685.9 million were spent.

He said that during past four years Rs 136,992.922 million were spent on road in the Punjab, Rs 68,922.735 million in Sindh, Rs 79041.155 million in Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, Rs 39747.533 million, Rs 23,588.878 million, and others Rs 28501.234 million.

He said that quality of works on the construction of highways and motorways projects, is up to desired and laid down specifications.

He said that consultancy firms are engaged after a competitive procurement process and deployed on the projects to supervise all the construction activities and to ensure quality of works as per standards and contract specifications.

He said that laboratories are established on project sites, wherein engineering tests are conducted by the supervision consultants at every stage of the project implementation to ensure quality.

The official that the NHA has formulated a Monitoring & Inspection Wing led by the General Manager (Monitoring & Inspection) for rendering project inspections at different stages of project execution.

The Inspection Team visits the projects at various stages and performs quality assurance tests independently to ensure quality of works.
