HBO blockbuster series Game of Thrones season 7 (GoTS7) return to screens on Sunday and everyone has been going crazy over it. Sunday’s Season 7 premiere episode scored 10.1 million linear viewers, which grows to a massive 16.1 million when counting multiple platforms.

According to Deadline, Leaving the previous series high of 8.89 million snared for its Season 6 finale in June 2016, ‘Dragonstone’ episode snagged 10.1 million viewers for its premiere. Telling of how TV is consumed, the opener pulled in another 6 million viewers on same-day DVR playback and streaming via HBO Go and HBO Now.

Season 6 of ‘Game of Thrones’ ended up as the most-watched season of any HBO series on record, but the opening episode of GoTS7 shattered all the previous records.

And although it should not come as all that much of a shock, a lot of people tuned into HBO Sunday night to acknowledge that Winter is in fact here.

According to Variety, 16.1 million people in total watched ‘Dragonstone,’ with 10.1 million of those watching live on HBO alone. Per the report, it was a 50 percent increase from the season 6 premiere last year and it made it the most-watched HBO season premiere in the history of the channel and it was the highest number of users on their streaming services as well.
