OSLO: Norwegian gas exports to Britain through the Langeled pipeline dropped to zero on Wednesday afternoon, operator Gassco said on Wednesday.

"It is down at the moment," said a company spokeswoman, adding that the duration of the outage was unknown.

The spokeswoman also declined to reveal the cause of the outage.

Gassco has not published the outage notification under REMIT, the European Union's regulation on energy market integrity and transparency.

Langeled is the main pipeline for gas supplies from Norway to Britain. It has a capacity of up to 72 mcm/day.

"If the whole pipeline is off then that's serious news," a gas trader told Reuters.

British gas for immediate delivery rose by 0.75 pence to 37.75 pence per therm at 1256 GMT, having traded at or near an intra-day low of 36.80 pence earlier.

Langeled's flows earlier on Wednesday were at 18 mcm/day, down from 35 mcm/day on Tuesday.

Norway is expected to reduce flows to Britain in June to fulfill summer production quotas, but this appears to be a separate issue, the trader added.
