Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has taken Hollywood by a storm is speaking on her accent in the drama “Quantico” and she is not sorry for how she speaks.
In a recent to the People Magazine, the Bollywood diva said this is how she sounds like and people should get used to it. The actress speaks the universal language the way she has learnt it and lacking any Indian touch to the accent doesn’t bother her and according to her shouldn’t bother anyone else too. The ‘Quantico’ star said:
“People want to put you in a box, when I started out, people at auditions would be like, and ‘Can you use your Indian accent?’ And I’m like, ‘I am speaking in my Indian accent. This is how we speak in modern India!”
Similar problems were faced by another American actor Aziz Ansari who was asked to use the stereotypical Indian accent just because the “Master of None” star has an Indian background. Both Priyanka and Aziz became good friends over meeting at the MET gala after party, Aziz even told the ‘Baywatch’ star that:
‘A couple of years ago at this gala, I saw, like, one other brown person,'" Chopra told People. "‘And today there were, like, six of us in that room!’
Priyanka who also stars as a villain in the upcoming movie “Baywatch” alongside Dwayne Johnson says she faced difficulties to find role in Hollywood as it lacked diversity but believes that it’s getting better now; "the struggle is really real."
