imageISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC)on Monday granted protective bail to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon in a corruption case.

A two-member IHC bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Mohsin Akthar Khan Kiyani heard Sharjeel's plea for bail inthe Rs 5 billion corruption case.

During the course of proceedings, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Sardar Muzafar Abbasi opposed the plea, pleading that the Lahore High Court had already rejected such a plea filed by the accused.

He apprised the court that the accused had not appeared before any inquiry team during last two years.

The bench, however, observed that according to several verdicts, there was no issue in granting bail to someone who surrendered himself before the court.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court granted 15-day protective bail to Sharjeel Memon against surety bonds of Rs 2 million.
