Proteas leg spinner Imran Tahir, who was recently crowned as T20 and ODI cricket number one bowler, hasnt been deemed fit enough for the upcoming Indian Premiere League (IPL).
The 37-year-old went unsold, despite coming in with a low base price tag of just $75 000 (Rs 7,900,000), on Mondays IPL auction ahead of the 2017 tournament.
Tahir who has last represented the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, lost his contract towards the end of last year.
This time around the Proteas leggie was expected to get an easy entry into the IPL when his name appeared in the fifth set of players. However, that was not meant to be.
The decision by IPL franchises didnt sit well with cricket fans, who switched to social media to vent their frustrations. Some Twitterati believe that Imran Tahir was not selected due to his Pakistani origin, amid Pak-India rising tensions.
I suspect Imran Tahir wasn't sold at the IPL auction because he's of Pakistan origin. Xenophobia nje. Indians & Pakistanis = water & oil.

How can Imran Tahir not get an IPL contract...it cannot be based on his form or his skill surely. Right now he is the number ONE T20 bowler!
