A 23-year-old dental student from France won the Miss Universe crown Monday in the Philippines, bringing her country its first win in the annual pageant in 64 years. Iris Mittenaere was speechless as she was announced Miss Universe 2017 by infamous host Steve Harvey.
Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier was named first runner-up, and Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar was second runner-up. Parisian native Mittenaere, is studying for a degree in dental surgery, and plans to use her platform as the winner of the 65th annual competition to advocate for oral hygiene, foreign media reported.
Hosted once again by Steve Harvey, who mistakenly named Miss Colombia as a winner of the last pageant in Las Vegas a year ago. This years ceremony featured musical performances from Flo Rida and Boyz II Men. The panel of judges included Cynthia Bailey, Paper magazines Mickey Boardman and producer Francine LeFrak, as well as Miss Universes 2011, 1994 and 1993.
