Shah Rukh Khan's take on playing Muslim characters in back-to-back movies
Shah Rukh Khan is recently seen playing a Muslim character in his third back-to-back movie. Among many accusations, he also fall victim of the recent controversy in which he has been accused of playing a Muslim character every time.
This supposed trend started with his cameo in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, where he played Aishwarya Rai Bachchans ex-husband, Tahir Taliyar Khan. In Dear Zindagi, he was Dr Jehangir Khan and now in Raees, he is Raees Alam. Few Indian media outlets have been criticizing him for favoring certain religion.
However, SRK has totally different take on this. In a blog he wrote for Indian Express, Shah Rukh Khan wrote about how journalism is becoming more sensationalist than informative. He also mentioned, You may write a piece from the point of view that I am doing three back-to-back Muslim characters. With due respect to my professionalism as an actor, I did not even know what my name was in Karan Johars Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. I just went for two hours, did some shots and had fun with my friends, Karan, Ranbir (Kapoor) and Aishwarya. I wrapped up around 2 am and partied till 6 am before flying back to Lisbon.
Earlier, he had been at the receiving end of political ire for his sentiments when Karan Johar cast him as Rizwan Khan in My Name is Khan. In the 2007 hit film Chak De India he was Kabir Khan, a disgraced hockey captain who faces religious discrimination and the ignominy of having to prove his patriotism despite his endeavor to win laurels for his country.
Shah Rukh Khan's Raees is in theatres these days and doing really well on box-office.
