Pakistans media watchdog PEMRA on Thursday banned TV anchor Amir Liaquat for spreading hate speech in his show Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga on newly launched TV channel Bol News.
Slapping the ban on the Bol news anchorperson, the regulator says, During several weeks it has been monitored that Amir Liaquat host of the programme Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga, in the episodes broadcast on Bol News from January 2, 2017 to January 24, 2017, has willfully and repeatedly made statements and allegations which tantamount to hate speech, derogatory remarks, incitement to violence against citizens and casting accusation of being anti-state and anti-Islam, on various individuals.
The PEMRA notification also clarifies that in case of non-compliance of the above orders, the licence for the channel shall be suspended with immediate effect.
The newly launched channel and PEMRA has been receiving several complains about the anchor from past many weeks. He has also caused a storm on different social networking sites where some people are accusing him of spreading hate speech while others calling it a free speech.
PEMRA in a statement said, Aamir Liaquat has willfully and repeatedly made statements and allegations which [are] tantamount to hate speech.
But the question arises as if he is the only one spreading the hate speech on a national television?
