Pakistans tour Down Under has been a series of odds, with the visitors bowling attack crumbling against the mighty Australians, while individual performance by the batting line makes this series quite interesting.
Pakistan opener Azhar Ali undoubtedly has emerged as a major star, with reputation and ability blossoming against the hostile Australian bowling attack. Azhars epic 205 unbeaten knock at the MCG, easily qualifies as the best batting performance by any Pakistani batsman on the Australian turf.
Azhars 395 runs in the ongoing three match series with an astounding average of 98.5, has surpassed Mohsin Khan 390 runs back in a five-Test series in 1983-84, signifying the level of success Azhar has had, a rarity for any Pakistani batsman in Australia.
I think hes been fantastic, coach Mickey Arthur said, reported AAP. Over the past year hes been a cornerstone of our batting. To see him come out and play with the intent he did again is amazing. The amount of time hes actually spent on the field this tour is almost beyond belief. For him to keep going and going shows a lot of resilience and a tough mind.
Arthur said both Azhar and Younis Khan exemplified the type of cricket he wanted his team to play.
Hopefully the other guys take a leaf out of their book, particularly intent because intent gets you into right positions and allows you to score, he said. And these two guys have shown that. Well see carry on with the same intent and see where that gets us (on Thursday).
Azhar Ali has enjoyed a phenomenal 2016, becoming one of the few Pakistanis to score over 1,000 runs in a calendar year, and has been successful in carrying on his form into 2017.
