imagePESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on Wednesday that opportunities were being provided to the youth to get technical education as it was the only path to prosperity and development.

"Our youths are very talented. They have the potential to work for the progress of the country," he said while addressing at the prize distribution ceremony of the Provincial Skills Competition.

The event was arranged by the National Vocation and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Prime Minister Youth Skill Development Programme at Agriculture University Peshawar.

Besides Vice Chancellor Agriculture University Peshawar Prof Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Swati, Director General NAVTTC Islamabad Dr. Nasir Khan, Director General, NAVTTC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA Syed Qasim Shah and a large number of students and teachers were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said the skilled human resource was essential for running the industrial units. He said that technical trainings can play a vital role in the social and economic development of the country. "The youth must be well-educated, well-trained and well-equipped to enter in the job market," he said.

The Governor said the government had started various skill development programmes for the youth, adding these training programmes meet the needs of local industries and a large number of youngsters could get overseas jobs and contribute to remittances.

The Governor visited and inspected the stalls and appreciated the work of trainees and distributed cash prizes of Rs75,000, Rs50,000 and Rs30,000 among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of each trade respectively.
