imageISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Thursday said that Pakistan and Turkey are facing common enemy of terrorism and vowed they will succeed in tackling the menace, posing threat to regional and global peace.

He said Pakistan-Turkey relations are embedded in history and the bond of our common heritage would remained eternal. "To me it is something which will survive for long," he said while speaking as chief guest at the 92nd National Day reception of Turkey here.

Khawaja Asif said the strong and overwhelming relationship of the Pakistanis and Turkish people is rooted in history.

Giving a reference to the World War-II, he said, the then Muslims soldiers of British Army had refused to fight against their Turkish brethren and that is a historic evidence of our relationship.

On the occasion national anthems of both the countries were played and the chief guest along with Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Turkish ambassador to Islamabad, Sadik Badur Girgin cut the cake to celebrate the national day.

Earlier, Turkish ambassador Sadik Badur Girgin in his remarks, both in Urdu and Turkish said, the people of Turkey shared the pains of Pakistanis as a result of the recent earthquake which led to loss of human lives and damages to properties.

He said both the countries shared the immutable bonds of common faith, shared history, cultural affinity and brotherhood. He expressed profound satisfaction over the continued development and expansion of bilateral relations in politics, economy, security and culture.

The ambassador, on the occasion read out message of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and said the Turkish people would surmount the challenges as they have done before.

The recaption was also attended by parliamentarians, diplomates, media persons and large number of quests.
