LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday demanded of the district administration to deploy police personnel at all the City markets and outside the shopping malls to ease the traffic congestion and keep an eye on anti-social elements.
LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari and Vice President Kashif Anwar said here that deployment of police personnel at exit and entry points of all the leading markets would not only help improve law and order situation but also avert any untoward incident.
They said the district administration should also ensure regular patrolling of traffic sergeants in and around all city markets and places prone to traffic congestion and traffic offenses.
"The deployment of police and patrolling by traffic sergeants will have psychological impact and discourage the traffic violators and anti-social elements to disrupt peace at business places," observed Lashari.
The LCCI office-bearers said that Lahore had become hub of business activities and thousands of shoppers visit various city markets from adjoining areas on daily basis. Their safety and smooth flow of traffic wais a prime responsibility of the law enforcement agencies but unfortunately for the last two to three years the situation was getting out of hands and it took hours to move from one place to the other.
They said the business activities due to shortage of electricity and gas were already low and if the law and order was not maintained through extra-ordinary measures, both the public and private sector would suffer heavily.
The Chamber's President added, "The government will face revenue losses, while the private sector will be left with no option but to reduce or close down their businesses."
They said that Lahore Chamber was well aware that Punjab Chief Minister was working day in and day out for the betterment of economy and expedite trade/business activities and all these efforts would prove more effective with better law and order situation.
