imageKARACHI: Polio is a debilitating disease and its eradication is the top priority of the government.

This was stated by the Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat- ul- Ebad Khan.

He was holding a meeting regarding polio eradication at the Governor House here on Tuesday.

Dr. Ishrat pointed out that many of the countries had accorded priority to polio eradication and they remained successful in achieving this objective.

He, however, stated that Pakistan is among the few countries where polio still exists. The Government is taking serious measures for the eradication of this disease, he added.

The Governor pointed out that there has been a reduction in the polio cases during the past few years.

He said that in Sindh polio was diagnosed among four children whose families had migrated from the northern areas.

Dr. Ishrat made it clear that the government seriously desires eradication of polio and apart from special drives, polio drops would also be administered in a routine manner as well.

He was of the view that participation of people was a must for the success of eradication of polio in order to make Pakistan a polio-free country.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Robert S. Scott, Rotary International Chair, National Chair Aziz Memon, District Governor Dr. Pir Ebrahim Shah, Dr. E.G.P. Haran, Consultant and Chief Zonal Coordinator, Masood Ahmed.
