imageISLAMABAD: While acknowledging Pakistan's important role in the global fight against terrorism, Ambassador of Denmark, Jesper Moller Sorensen on Monday reiterated his country's support to combating terrorism in Pakistan.

"Pakistan is a key player in this region and in the global fight against terrorism. We will never forget the terrible losses terrorism has inflicted on this country. We are very aware of this, and we support Pakistan," he said while speaking at the inaugural session of the 7th Regional Workshop for Police Officers, Prosecutors and Judges in South Asia on Effectively Countering Terrorism here.

Denmark, he said, has expanded its support to Pakistan through a stabilization program that addresses the challenges important to peace, security, and prosperity in this region.

"We are also supporting the long-term development in Pakistan through our development assistance program. In fact, we will launch the next phase of our development cooperation program next week here in Islamabad", he added.

The Ambassador encouraged participants in the workshop to work together on an intra-regional basis.

"Planning of terrorist attacks may well take place in one region and being carried out in another.

It is extremely important to build networks and exchange best practices within and between regions. It is as important as ever to work together, build trust, create counter-terrorism networks and exchange best practices", he added.

Police officers, prosecutors and judges from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will over the next three days discuss the role of the police, prosecutors and judges in leading effective investigations and prosecution, and exchanging best practices at the national level and how to promote pragmatic regional cooperation.

The regional workshop is jointly hosted by the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), and organized by the Center on Global Counter-terrorism Cooperation, with the financial support of the Government of Denmark, Australia and the United States of America.
