LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that youth are an asset of the nation and government is providing all out resources for equipping them with education.

He said that the target of enrolment of all the children in schools will be met within next five years and emergency enrolment campaign has been launched in addition to issuing directions to Education Department in this regard.

He said that the country and the nation can only be put on the road to progress and prosperity by promoting education. He said that the living nations achieved a commendable place in the comity of nations through skill, education, science and technology, research, honesty and hard work. He expressed the confidence that Pakistan cannot only lead the Muslim world but also the entire world by following these golden principles.

He expressed these views while addressing a prize distribution ceremony held in the honour of position holders in the Matric examinations of different educational boards at Chief Minister's Office, here Saturday. Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Ch. Sher Ali, Dr Farrukh Javed, Ch. Muhammad Shafiq, Ata Manika, Special Assistants, Advisors, Members Assembly, Vice Chancellors, intellectuals, columnists, anchors, teachers, parents of position holders and a large number of boy and girl students attended the ceremony.

The Chief Minister distributed cash prizes of Rs42.2 million among 127 position holders of nine boards of Punjab, 12 students of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Federal Board Islamabad while two students of Daanish School as well as Rs16.8 million among teachers.

Shahbaz said that Punjab government is distributing prizes of millions of rupees for the encouragement of male and female position holder students continuously for the last six years and this process will be continued in future as well.

He said that position holders are sent on study tours of prominent universities of the world on government expenditure as a result of which, not only their confidence increases but a spirit of moving ahead with hard work and dedication is also inculcated.

He said that Punjab government has set up Daanish Schools for the poor children as they have as much right over education as the rich. The Chief Minister said that if anyone criticizes Daanish schools then he tries to deprive these poor children of their right.

He said it is injustice that educational institutions like Acheson, Cadet and Grammar schools are available only to elite and opportunity of quality education is not available for the children of the poor. Shahbaz Sharif said he wants to tell that children of the poor are acquiring better education in Daanish Schools as compared to Acheson College and the students studying in Daanish schools are obtaining top positions in the examinations for the last two years.

He said that Punjab government had established Punjab Educational Endowment Fund six years ago and its volume has increased up to Rs12 billion and more than 50,000 boys and girls students are continuing their education through educational scholarships.

The Chief Minister said that despite opposition, Muslim League-N achieved a thumping victory from Karachi to Peshawar. He said that it was due to the blessings of Allah Almighty and support of the people. He said that country is facing a lot of challenges and difficulties, gas and electricity of billions of rupees is being stolen, national exchequer has been looted mercilessly and Pakistan despite being a nuclear power has been made a beggar country. Pakistan has no respect in the comity of nations and this process will not be continued, he added.

The Chief Minister said that the countries of the world which were ruined have not only become self-reliance but their economic independence is a bright example for the world.

He said that Pakistan can achieve a respectable status in the world by eliminating poverty and ignorance and by giving top priority to education. He said that the elite will have to make sacrifice for socio-economic stability of the country. If we can complete metro bus project in eleven months then why cannot cope with the challenges being faced by the country, he added.

On this occasion, position holder boy and girl students who visited international universities also expressed their impressions regarding their study tour abroad.
