khyber-agency-400PESHAWAR: Election campaign has gained momentum in the provincial capital of Khyber Pakthunkhwa where tough contest is expected on four national assembly seats among political heavyweights of different political parties in general election 2013.

Like in the past, tough electoral battle is expected on NA-3 Peshawar between top political heavyweights of the mainstream political parties of the country and candidates.

Pakistan Peoples Party has awarded party ticket for NA-3 Peshawar-III to winner of 2008 election and former MNA Noor Alam Khan who is regarded as strong candidate.

PML-N is likely to field its Central General Secretary, Iqbal Zafar Jehagra also a strong contestant while JUI-F has given party ticket to former District Nazim Peshawar Senator Ghulam Ali while PML-Q General Secretary KP Intikhab Khan Chamkani, ANP's Arbab Inam, Jumaat e Islami Isarullah Khan will also try their luck on NA-3

The candidates have started corner and public meetings in the constituency, informing masses about parties manifestos and future programs.

In their public and corner meetings, the candidates have vowed to change the destiny of the poor strata of the constituency by addressing all the basic problems related to gas, electricity, education, health and better infrastructure facilities if voted to power in 2013 general elections.

The candidates in their election vows have set to revamp health, communication and education infrastructure in NA-3 and focus would be made in improving irrigation' network as most of electorates are associated with agriculture.

The problems of NA-3 Peshawar are countless. The people of various localities of the constituency lack the facilities of gas, quality schools, hospitals, irrigation, low voltage, overload transformers, poor condition of linking roads and health infrastructure.

The constituency was won by different political parities during the past.

In 2008 general election, PPP Noor Alam had defeated the then ANP Central leader, Hasum Babar with a narrow margin. Hasum Babar had later developed differences with ANP and joined Pakistan Tahrik e Insaf.

Tahrik e Insaf has yet to finalize name for NA-3 and likely to give party ticket to Hasum Babar who has significant vote bank.

In 2002 general election, Qari Fayyazur Rehman who contested on MMA ticket had emerged victorious by obtaining 33567 votes.

The political observers said that this time close contest is expected between former MNA and PPP candidate Noor Alam Khan, ANP's Arbab Inam, JUI-F Ghulam Ali while JI Israr advocate can also give surprise.

The constituency consists on urban and rural areas like Gul Bela, Chagarmati, Ghari Mohmand, Charsadda Road, Muhammad Zai, Khalisa, Dalazak Road, Kandar, Naguman areas.

This constituency is inhabited by majority of Pushto speakers whose major source of income is transport, farming, livestock and government jobs while many are in foreign countries.

The area landlords have a great influence over their tenants and candidate who grabbed their support would easily win it.

The 'Biradry' system is strong in the constituency and the candidates who succeeded in wining the support of Maliks and veteran politicians will easily get seat in Lower House of Parliament.
