ISLAMABAD: The 85th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed will be observed Saturday in a befitting manner with the resolve to continue his mission of serving the poor.
Various wings of the PPP across the country will organize events to mark the day to pay rich tributes to their beloved and visionary leader.
Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan have arranged special programmes and features on this occasion.
Radio Pakistan Lahore has organized a special function to pay glowing tributes to Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his 85th birth anniversary.
Prominent personalities will highlight the services, vision and philosophy of Shaheed Bhutto for the cause of strengthening democracy.
Bhutto laid the basis for the democratic process in the country with the formation of Pakistan People's Party on November 30, 1967.
Besides giving the nation a consensus constitution, passed unanimously by the National Assembly on April 12, 1973, it was his foresight to make defence of the country invincible by initiating the nuclear programme.
Bhutto will also be remembered for championing rights of the poor masses and creating an awareness in the common man for his basic human rights including the right to vote.
ZA Bhutto launched Pakistan People's Party in 1967 which had won 1970 elections in the then West Pakistan with a vast majority.
The late prime minister had earned a place in the galaxy of leaders of the Third World who earned fame in the struggle against colonialism and imperialism. Bhutto's formation of a new political party was a setback for the reactionary forces in a country- long dominated by rightists.
The present government of PPP with its coalition partners restored the 1973 Constitution in its original form and empowered the parliament to take all decisions as envisioned by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Bhutto was a visionary politician of international repute, who had served as the President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973 and then as Prime Minister from 1973 to 1977.
He had taken many short and long term practical steps to give honour, dignity self-respect to the common man.
