PARIS: President Asif Ali Zardari, who is arriving here on Sunday, will represent Pakistan in an important international conference on the right of education of the girls.
The Conference is being jointly organised by Pakistan and UNESCO here on Monday highlighting the importance of education for girls which is being attributed to young Malala Yousafzai for her strong commitment for girls' education.
Pakistan is playing key role in organizing this important conference on girl's right of education titled "Stand Up for Malala - girl's right for education".
This international conference being hosted by UNESCO and Pakistan indicated that international community is united to provide education to the girls and fight against those elements who are against the right to the education to the girls.
A special Malala Fund will be established on this occasion to raise the funds for the help of girl's education throughout the world and Pakistan will announce to provide seed money to establish this Fund.
The event coinciding with International Human Rights Day and it will bring together representatives of governments, UN partners, international and bilateral organizations, foundations, donors, the private sector, civil society, academics, religious leaders, eminent personalities, the media and other stakeholders in an effort to renew commitment and seek support for girls' education globally.
President Asif Ali Zardari, along with Federal Ministers for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and Federal Minister for Technical Education and Vocational Training Sheikh Waqas Akram and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme Farzana Raja will personally attend in order to exhibit Pakistan's strong commitment to education, especially for girls.
The President will also hold a brief meeting with Director General UNESCO Iriva Bokova who is the host of the event.
A Memorandum of Understanding to establish Malala Fund to promote girls education is expected to be signed between Pakistan and UNESCO on this occasion.
President Zardari will also meet French President Hollande to discuss bilateral issues during his three-day visit to Paris.
Among other high level international figures who will participate in this important event, include Prime Minister of France Jeam-Marc Aryalt, UN Special Envoy for Global Education and former Prime Minister of UK, former President of Finland Ms. Tarja Halonen, Executive Director UN Women Ms. Michelle Bachelet, Foreign Minister of UAE Sheikh Abdullah, Under Secretary General and Special Representative of UN Secretary General Liela Zerrougui.
Representative of UN Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict, Dr. Abdulaziz Othoman Altwaiijri Director General ISESCO, Maria Arnholm State Secretary to Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Minister for Education and in line with the EFA goals and the priorities of the Education First initiative.
The overall goal of this event is to advocate for and promote girls' right to education, encompassing all levels and all aspects of education, so that education becomes available and accessible to all girls, while being acceptable and adaptable to their specific needs and circumstances.
The conference will also be recognition of the courage, Malala who has become a global icon of hope and inspiration, igniting a positive reaction and leveraging support for girls' education worldwide.
Pakistan, Malala's home country, has reacted firmly and instantly, expressing its determination to renew commitment and impetus to protect and promote girls' education and the achievements of the EFA goals.
Beyond the frontiers of the country, the event speaks volumes of resolve of Government of Pakistan to take this opportunity to mobilize the international community in support of the right of girls to education.
This unique and joint effort of Government of Pakistan and UNESCO is expected to become a beacon of light for 61 million children across the world, most of which are girls, who aspire to go to school.
The objectives of this advocacy event are to sensitize the international community about the importance of and special challenges and obstacles relating to girls' education, advance girls' education as an urgent policy and mobilize support and commitment from various partners in favour of programmes for girls' education.
