KARACHI: The main mourning procession of the 9th Muharram-ul-haram culminated peacefully after passing through its traditional route in the metropolis on Saturday.
The main mourning procession of the day emerged at Markazi Imambargah Liaquatabad, amidst strict security arrangements by the law enforcement agencies.
The procession first proceeded to the Martin road, Imambargah and thereafter moved to Nishter park where the majlis was organized.
After the majlis at Nishter park, the mourners offered Namaz-e-Zohrain at Imambargah Ali Raza near Naumaish chowrangi and left for Iranian Hussainian Imambargah, Kharadar.
Strict security measures were adopted by the law enforcement agencies to ensure peaceful holding of the mourning procession, as heavy contingent of rangers, police and frontier constabulary with the help of other law enforcement agencies made security arrangements.
Scouts'organizations, rescue services' ambulances, fire brigade and officials of the local administrations also facilitated the mourners.
The aerial monitoring of the procession was also carried out by the helicopter.
The mourners of the procession were allowed to join only from the notified entry points after passing through the walk- through gates and thorough body checking with the help of metal detector.
All roads and lanes leading to the route of the procession were sealed by placing containers to prohibit the unwanted entry of vehicles and persons.
The entire route of the procession was sealed as shops and markets situated on it were closed before commencement of the procession.
The procession was also monitored with the close circuit security cameras which were installed at vantage points on the route of procession.
After majlis at Nishter Park the procession proceeded to Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road and passed through the Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil-e- Shah-e- Khurasan M.A. Jinnah Road, Mainsfield Street Preedy Street, Again M.A. Jinnah Road Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar and Kharadar Nawab Mahabat Khanjee road culminated peacefully at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
