pak us camera 400WASHINGTON: A Pakistani-American filmmaker has made a distinctive debut in the highly competitive movie festival landscape as his first feature-length production is earning accolades for uniqueness of its subject and presentation.

Mumtaz Hussain's film 'Art Equals Love Square or Art=(Love)2' has gained recognition at American and international film festivals, which are a threshold to big screen admittance.

Gold Prestige Award from Prestige Film Festival, Hollywood and Platinum Reel Award from Nevada Film Festival, have thrilled Hussain.

"I' m really happy that my work is being acknowledged," a delighted Hussain said, hoping he would be able to hit the next mark, when distributor would pick his movie for screening at cinemas.

As he spoke enthusiastically about his creation, Hussain got the news that Switzerland Lucerne Film Festival has chosen the film for Award of Merit, while Delhi Film Festival has also selected the movie for screening.

The film was among the few movies selected for screening from a group of more than three thousand submissions from around the world, Hussain, who is also a well-known New York-based artist, said of showings at the American festivals.

The festival in Los Vegas was attended by Oscar-winning personalities who admired the unique subject of Art=(Love)2, he says.

Mumtaz's production is a psychological thriller, in which the protagonist finds the murderer of his lover through his paintings. It's the story of struggling artist Dean, who is in love with a Mathematics student, Isabella.

When Isabella mysteriously dies, Dean makes every effort into understanding how that happened. Circumventing the police and concerned friends, Dean chooses a path of creative madness. His paintings reflect the workings of an extraordinary mind. And with their help, he transcends art into science. And from science into the realm of the unknown, Hussain says of his production.

Mumtaz Hussain has made six films so far. This is his debut feature film in Hollywood.

As an artist, he says, the drama takes place in his own mind, which he then transfers to his characters.

The production of the film included Hollywood actors and technicians. According to Hussain, editor of the film, Chris Holms has also edited famous films including Rocky while composer of the film is Joe Delia, who has worked on more than forty Hollywood films including The Kings of New York.
