WASHINGTON: New claims for US unemployment insurance benefits plunged unexpectedly to 339,000 last week, in a fresh sign of solid improvement in the jobs market, the Labor department reported Thursday.
The figure, a sign of the pace of layoffs in the economy, was far below last week's 369,000 and the four-week average of 375,500.
